Dishonored:
Death of the Outsider
Creative Director: Harvey Smith
Narrative Lead: Sachka Duval
As a contract writer on Arkane Lyon’s WGA-nominated Dishonored: Death of the Outsider (2017), I was responsible for cinematic scripts, barks, ambient dialogue, and lore. I wrote to house style and maintained character voices consistent with previous entries in the franchise. I also worked with voice actors Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka, Daredevil), Robin Lord Taylor (Gotham, Accepted), and Michael Madsen (Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs) to deliver high quality performances.
This is a small but representative selection of content I owned for this game. Thumbnail will direct to full YouTube video.
Interstitial Cutscenes
Animated cutscenes describing the forthcoming mission, giving context to the forthcoming mission gameplay as well as moments of characterization for the player character, Billie Lurk.
In-Engine Cutsenes
In-engine cutscenes depicting important narrative moments between our main characters, interspersed through the missions.
Mission Dialogue — “The Stolen Archive”
Death of the Outsider’s missions employed combat barks, player-facing mission hints and character moments, as well as branching dialogue to account for emergent narrative.
Player character and select NPC dialogue by me, additional NPC dialogue by veteran writer and narrative designer Anna Megill.
Branching Ending, “Lethal” and “Non-Lethal”
Death of the Outsider featured two endings, one involving branching dialogue between Billie and Daud.
Rat Whispers
Death of the Outsider contained diegetic gameplay hints and worldbuilding through a unique delivery method. Using an in-game power, Billie Lurk could listen to whispers from clusters of rats spread throughout the game.
Co-written alongside Anna Megill.
Daud Ambient Whispers
The Ritual Hold area in the Void featured Daud, a sad and broken man crying out for his mother. If the player stood near Daud before interacting with him, they heard ambient dialogue wherein Daud talks to himself about his regrets.
